A Savvy Start:

A young entrepreneur builds her media empire

By Lauren Berger
Awesome in April–What Can We Accomplish?

April is my favorite month because it’s my birthday month. With every birthday comes a reminder that time is passing by. To prevent the “birthday blues,” I’m going to establish some clear entrepreneurial goals for myself and my company for the month of April, and I encourage readers to do the same. The first week of the month is a fresh start. And by setting goals and sticking to them, we can achieve a sense of accomplishment for our (or my) special month.

Lauren’s Goals to be Awesome in April:

Goal 1: Set at least three Intern Queen-related meetings per week (lunches, breakfasts or coffees) with anyone who can help expand/grow or shed light on my business.

Goal 2: Spend at least four hours each weekend doing work-related activities. Ideally, I will go to any place with wireless internet where I can sit and not be bothered for at least 2-3 consecutive hours. I call these brainstorming sessions where I do everything from reach out to old contacts to updating my client database and thinking about ways to expand the brand and business.

Goal 3: Have a completed MBA-style business plan completed by April 30.

So this is where I am right now with my goals. Once a week I’ll check in to let you all know how I’m doing and if I’m sticking to them. This month is filled with some traveling and social events (and my birthday, of course), but I will stick to these goals.

Adding a New Section to My Blog

Since I’m out and about many days out of the week, I decided to add a section to my blog called Intern Queen Favorites. I’m just going to list two or three things, places or items that I think are great. I know I gave a huge shout to McDonald’s iced coffee yesterday, and people seemed to enjoy that. It will give us entrepreneurs a break for a second to enjoy things other than work.

Intern Queen Favorites:

Canter’s Deli: This has always been one of my favorite Los Angeles spots, and Canter’s has a great chicken noodle soup (I’m a huge chicken noodle soup fan). I had breakfast here this morning, and it was a wonderful way to start the day. Note: I’m probably blogging so early this morning because I’m still giddy from the morning coffee.

Los Angeles Dodgers: The season has officially started and the Dodgers won last night. The game was amazing. Go check one out.
