A Savvy Start:

A young entrepreneur builds her media empire

Posting, Posting, Posting

My readers must be overwhelmed by the recent spate of posts. Get excited, kids, the Intern Queen is getting her kicks back a little bit. I must take a minute to ask everyone, have you tried McDonalds’ new iced coffee? It gets me going every morning on the way to work.

I know I mentioned a potential investor for Intern Queen some time ago and I reported that the connection fell through. The investor potentially wanted to provide funding, but the company also wanted me to put up all the money for the lawyer and paperwork. Without any knowledge or background information on the company, I found the risk too high. The investor also wanted a significant amount of ownership in the company. I did speak to a lawyer about this and was advised that if the company/investor wouldn’t supply me with background information, it most likely was not a good idea. Sometimes I don’t understand why I am presented with so many fake opportunities. It’s ridiculous. I hate speaking about things when they don’t happen–it makes me sound like I don’t have my act together. As my old boss would say, “Grrrrrrrrr.”

Another topic I’d like to address with readers is my book deal situation. I’ve shopped my book around town a few times and not had much luck. This is my nonfiction book on how to get an internship. I was offered a book deal from a small, independent book publisher. The problem I have with the contract is that the publisher wants me to hire my own publicist. With a contract that provides no advance, I don’t see that being a smart decision. Does anyone else have thoughts on this ?

I continue to increase my relationships with internship coordinators daily, which is a major plus, and I’m working on getting connected to the fraternity/sorority demographic in town. I think many of them would benefit from my internship services.

Have a wonderful Tuesday and don’t forget to try the McDonald’s iced coffee.

Lauren
